Walking Football is a variant of the association football game and was born in Chesterfield in 2011 - having been devised by John Croot for the Chesterfield FC Football Trust.
It really shot to prominence after being featured in a Barclays Bank TV ad in 2014 - and since then the number of new players, clubs and leagues has proliferated rapidly. Not just in the UK but worldwide. With many professional outfits such as Manchester City setting up their own teams and international sides now taking off too with regular tournaments.
In Spain the game has proved very popular amongst British expats and has really taken off along the Southern Costas. Now, we're hoping to bring some of that excitement here to Lanzarote and enable anyone who wants to play to be able to enjoy a game, regardless of their age, ability, gender or nationality.
